Compensation

Authors, there are now two ways you can be compensated for your articles. Since we were not getting many takers on our first compensation model ($0.20 per opened e-blast with a $75 max), we added a second. It pays $10 for an article at the time it is published, and another $10 when it reaches 100 unique viewers. The second option does not require you to promote your own work. You choose the model when you upload your article.

Article Ideas

Last week, I addressed a question of what to write about. Several of you (new authors) responded in our phone survey that you didn’t have ideas for articles. So I created several examples that I hope will spark new ideas for easy news stories. Each example took about an hour to write and upload to the site.

My first article is a quick travel guide for anyone interested in a cheap fun day trip or overnight camp trip. The trip was not done to write the article. The article flowed easily out of the trip. All I needed was a few pictures and a brief bit of research done via the web.

One of the things that I did to make this article a little more fun was to add pictures right in the article. I’ll create a tutorial for you later this week showing how to do this.

The second article that I’ll highlight is a review of a local coffee shop. I made a run to Black Dog coffee on my way to work one morning. I snapped a few pictures, and wrote up this article. Again, my investment of time to create the article was around an hour.

Since many of you new authors are college students, I hope there will be plenty to write about when you get back to school in the fall. If you attend an event on campus, that might be your next article. Book reviews (please don’t review textbooks) might be another easy article.

Pageviews is up from the beginning of the month

Visits is also up from the beginning of the month

The number of unique visits reported in the site scoreboard was not matching the “Absolute Unique Visitors” reported by Google Analytics. I did some research and found that our “Preview” button on the admin console was skewing our numbers. I’ve corrected this, and by next week I expect our numbers to match Google’s.
